Leading Post-Acute Care Company Golden Living Joins Keystone HIE Initiative

DANVILLE, Pa. (June 5, 2012) — One of Pennsylvania’s largest health information sharing organizations, Keystone Health Information Exchange (KeyHIE®), announced today that 11 Golden Living skilled nursing facilities in northeast and central Pennsylvania have joined KeyHIE as the first post-acute healthcare facilities to participate in the network. Golden Living is one of the largest providers of post-acute healthcare services in the country, with 37 Golden LivingCenters in Pennsylvania and more than 300 nationwide.

KeyHIE is a secure network that links doctors, hospitals and other healthcare professionals in a 31-county region of Pennsylvania and provides them with secure access to patient-consented health information, including laboratory and test results, treatment histories, and medication and allergy lists.

The 11 Golden LivingCenters will join more than 50 KeyHIE-participating hospitals and healthcare facilities that serve nearly three million patients.

KeyHIE’s secured website allows clinicians and providers to access patient health data from all participating healthcare providers in a standardized electronic format. This initiative has the potential to help providers access information in a timely manner as patients transfer from one care setting or provider to another.

“The exchange is a valuable tool for doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers caring for a skilled nursing facility resident,” said Jim Younkin, Program Director, Health Information Technology, Geisinger Health Systems. “A clinician can look up a patient in this system and find which doctors and healthcare facilities have treated the patient, saving time and potentially improving safety.”

“Golden Living is proud to partner with the Keystone Health Information Exchange in providing such an important tool to our LivingCenters,” said Neil Kurtz, M.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Golden Living. “We believe that innovative use of health information technology is a critical pathway to improvements in healthcare quality and cost efficiency. Our patients, residents, and employees will all benefit from our participation with KeyHIE.”

The Golden LivingCenters in Pennsylvania that are joining KeyHIE are:

• East Mountain (Wilkes-Barre)

• HAIDA (Hastings)

• Hillview (Altoona)

• Mansion (Sunbury)

• Richland (Johnstown)

• Scranton (Scranton)

• Stroud (East Stroudsburg)

• Summit (Wilkes-Barre)

• Tunkhannock (Tunkhannock)

• William Penn (Lewistown)

• York Terrace (Pottsville)
